We headed to Del Posto Ristorante for lunch on New Year's day for our first meal of 2013. The restaurant is located in a rather dull area of NY City's Chelsea neighborhood.
We checked in our coats and walked through a second door into the dimly lit restaurant.
The stern looking Maître d' checked our reservation then walked us to our table.
Pianist playing by the stairs
Assaggi ("little tastes")
Cauliflower soup with leaks & fennel; croquettes with chickpeas, cod and ricotta; parmesan chips - all three were good, especially the soup 'shots' with breadcrumbs around the rim
Bread basket, butter and whipped lardo with garlic
Antipasti
Insalata di Verdure: Brutte ma buone - robiola, Swiss chard & grapefruit citronette
Vitello Tonnato - olive crostone, caper berries, parsley stem & lime cells. Nice!
Main dish
We selected a primi (pasta) and a secondi (fish).
Handmade Orecchiette - lamb neck ragù, orange carrots, rye crumbs & toasted sage. The carrots were slightly too sweet and overall this dish was below my expectations.
The fish secondi
Dolci
Butterscotch Semifreddo - melon agrumata and crumbled sbrisolona
L'Aspro Cremoso - huckleberry marmellata & polenta croccante
After the dolci, some mignardises were served in/on a cheese grater.
Chocolate truffle, candied grapefruit with Campari
Bomboloni with vanilla & orange zest cream and caramelized walnuts
That was a really nice meal, perfect to kick-start the new year!
