Some interesting ice cream flavours can be found throughout Japan and to us foreigners the most enjoyable and exotic one is matcha (powdered green tea).
We heard that the Japanese have gone to great length to invent new ice cream flavours and that the place to try the craziest ones is Ice Cream City. It's not much of a city but rather an area within the Namco NamjaTown indoor theme park in Sunshine City. Those who like to eat gyoza (Japanese dumplings) can also visit Gyoza Stadium within the same theme park.

Heading to the 3rd floor of Namja Town for Ice Cream City.
There is a food court with several ice cream shops.
The real highlight is the Cup Ice Museum.
One can find the usual flavours and some rarer ones.
But also some weird/disgusting/scary flavours: fermented soybeans
"Old Taste"
Miso noodle, Curry, Caviar, Viper, Silk, Oxtongue
Eel, Tofu
Jellyfish
Rice, Squid
Chicken Wing
Octopus
Corn, Crab
Curious to know which one we picked ? We played it safe and went outside the "Museum" and bought some Turkish-style ice cream at Dondurma.
Here's our advice: don't go out of your way to visit Ice Cream World unless you are a die-hard ice cream aficionado. But if you are in Ikebukuro and visiting Sunshine City, it's worth spending twenty minutes trying some new ice cream flavours.
