Japan day 3: Kamakura & Tokyo (Roppongi)

Sunny Sunday perfect for a daytrip  to Kamakura, a seaside town 50km from Tokyo, "Home of the Samurai".

Shokozan-Tokeiji Temple (the Divorce Temple) Founded 1285. Sanctuary where a woman petitioner could obtain divorce from her husband after she spent 3 years at the temple.

Engaku-Ji - shrine of sacred tooth of the Buddha

Quick noodle lunch in Kita-Kamakura

Tsurugoaka Hachimangu Shrine, where we had the chance to witness a Shinto wedding.

Next temple (and last one for the day): Hase Kannon.

Back to Tokyo. We've seen dozens of Japanese sleeping in trains during our two previous days and assumed that they were overworked, sleep-deprived office workers. To our amazement, on a Sunday afternoon, this is what we saw during our train ride, a full row of sleepers.

Our destination back in Tokyo was a big property development in the Roppongi district.

We had dinner in the food court of the North Tower, at Sakura Dining Kitchen.

Grilled Snapper, brown rice, miso soup and pickles

Salmon, salmon roe and avocado & chicken and egg set meal:

We then proceeded towards Cold Stone Creamery for dessert.

Two friendly employees singing while preparing our order..

and voila:  Whip'n Murasaki-imo (Green tea ice-cream with double murasaki-imo mousse whipped topping) and Mint Mint Chocolate Chocolate Chip (mint ice-cream, brownie, chocolate chips fudge).

After all this goodness, time to call it a day.
